Yamaguchi University Holds “Special Lecture” during International Month

Yamaguchi University hosted a “Special Lecture” during International Month in October each year where international exchange and cooperative activities are promoted and encouraged. This year in an effort to increase awareness and interest in studying in America, the Consul for Public Affairs Director Mr. Michael Chadwick of the American Consul in Fukuoka gave a lecture entitled “Studying Abroad in America – The Value of International Exchange” at the Media Room in the Yoshida Campus which was then telecast to all campuses. Over ninety people attended the lecture including sixty students, 23 staff members and seven members of the general public.

At the conference, President of Yamaguchi University Prof. Dr. Marumoto addressed the audience before handing the floor over to Mr. Chadwick who spoke about his own experience as an exchange student and the merits of studying in America. He gave an outline of the unique features of an American exchange while making comparisons between Japan and America and gave invaluable advice on how to apply for a visa all the while entertaining the audience with his humorous anecdotes. The conference proved to be an indispensible opportunity for students to learn more about studying abroad and was a chance for them to increase their knowledge and interest in foreign exchange.
