Taiwan’s Providence University Delegation Visits Yamaguchi University

A delegation from Providence University visited Yamaguchi University (YU) on Wednesday July 17. Most of 20 visitors were students of the EMBA program in the College of Management.

Representatives of both institutions offered introductions and exchanged gifts. Professor Wei, Chief Executive Officer of EMBA program at Providence University, described his university’s educational philosophy, organization, and the EMBA program. From Yamaguchi University, Vice President (for International and Regional Cooperation) Hattori presented some history and a description of the university, emphasizing its exchanges with universities in Taiwan. He also described the tourist attractions in Yamaguchi Prefecture.

Ten YU students, mainly from the Faculty of Education’s English Education program had a chance to mingle with Providence University students. On behalf of the Taiwanese students, Ms. Deng made a presentation on Taiwanese food, sights, and culture, and then answered questions. The Japanese students then had a chance to introduce themselves and took questions from the Taiwanese attendees. The whole session was relaxed and went very well.

The delegation also toured Yoshida Campus’ Oga Hasu Pond with lotus flowers in full bloom, the plants that the late Dr. Ichiro Oga sprouted from the seeds of 2000-year-old lotuses. Yamaguchi University divided and transplanted the multiplied ones to the pond in 2009 and has continued to cultivate them. The delegation enjoyed the summertime moment with lotus flowers all over the pond, and then departed.

Providence University is a private university that emphasizes education. Student exchange activities have been conducted with YU, especially during summer programs, since a 2009 agreement. With the Mach 2013 establishment of the Yamaguchi University Alumni Association in Taiwan, it is hoped that this visit will be part of a vital and energetic exchange between YU and Taiwan.
